Just a Piece of Paper

It’s an ordinary day and an ordinary thing.
 Just a piece of paper.
 Just a little bill.
Just a piece of paper, and then
I could give you a ring.
I know I need to pay the charge,
thoughts of not make me ill.
Pay and pay I will, but not until
The damn thing appears.
 Always, always on days like this;
 The time ticks;
 Quick, quick, quick.
 Searching madly, blindly, franticly
 On and on, hunting,
 Scavenging through the bin,
 Which it is not in,
Annoying, irritating, round and around, again and again.
In a rush, too much to do,
 Too little
Time,
 Time,
 Going,
 Gone!
But later, after the office shuts,
 the phone lines cut
 Out for the night.
 There it was;
Peeking out, in plain sight.
All the while, it had been
Right where I left it yesterday.
Today I will put it somewhere safer.

Two Haiku

Two Haiku on the spelling pattern 'ou'

Henry ate more trout
round and stout, trousers don't fit
mounds of food gives gout

 A man found a pound
On the ground, pounced with a shout
Scout heard shouts; Good Cause.

A Science Lesson

A Science Lesson (with apologies to Joyce Grenfell)
Now, this subject is really weighty,
Concentrate. Now, what is it Katy?
Where was I?
Ah yes. Your point is Glen?
Dale, DALE! Please don’t eat your pen.
Now, look! You’re all but covered in ink.
Oh Lilly, you know you don’t write in pink.
I really would like to start this lesson.
No, NO! Billy! Please don’t turn the gas on!
What’s that? Are we doing a practical?
Only if you work well; this is factual.
Copy the instructions off the board.
Now Laurence, don’t do that with that cord.
You’ll strangle yourself.
 Now Craig, you’ve broken
Your calculator!
 No! Peter, you’ll choke on
 That pen lid.
Oh No! Fetch the nurse, Amber, please!
 Jack! Jack!
 Get out of my purse!
Now, altogether children, lets listen,
You never know, you may learn something this lesson.
Laurence, take that off, that’s not a mask!
Laura, if you don’t understand it, just ask.
Ok, now draw this.
 Sam!
 That’s typical!
I am fed up!
 Your behaviour; it’s despicable!
James, can it be, that’s all you’ve written?
Rosie, ROSIE!
The stool is only to sit on.
Right! Let’s get the bunsens set up.
No, No! Sebastian, that should not be cut!
Don’t stir with that. Use this instead.
James, why is it you’ve done your drawing in red?
Who did this graffiti on this table?
Josh, boil the water in this kettle.
No, Louis, we don’t say ‘Hell!’
 Oh, thank goodness.
 Is that the Bell?

Venus

Venus in the sky tonight
Shining with your light so bright

How often is it that you hear
Every time that you are near

'I wish I may, I wish I might
Wish upon a star tonight?'

Think you back and then you say,
'Every night, not in the day.'

'You wish you might, you wish you may
You can not wish on me today'

'I'm not a star, tho' shine I might
You can not wish on me tonight'

'Twinkle, twinkle little star
If I do not twinkle, I'm not a star.'

Listen

Listen – Hear the silence
Listen, no one talks
What was said? What was said?
Did you hear, did you?
Did you read the body language?
What was read? What was read?
Did you listen between the lines?
Did you ask the right questions?
Did you hear the signs?
Did you hear the unspoken words
Does it matter what was said?
Did you listen to the silence?
Or did you listen to the birds?
two Girlscout/Girl guide songs which when I searched for them were not avaliable on the web

The Gift
The blue bottle song

I have a little present here for you,
Inside this tiny bottle,
so very small and blue
Please do not uncork it,
simply put in on away
For inside there lies a summer's day
Put it on away

I'd be pleased if you didn't ask why I gave this gift to you
Don't know myself, did it on a whim,
as the thought came rushing through.
Just want to make you happy
in a summertime sort of way
I thought you might like your own summer's day
Put it on away

Can you read the writing on this tiny bottle's wall?
I know that it's quite small, but I can read it all
Says 'she who is reading this is looking right at my side
And might be kind of interested at what there lies inside;
One breath of a butterfly and one ray from the sun,
And lots and lots of laughter from little children's fun.
Don't you dare uncork it, or everything will get away,
I just wanted you to have a summer's day'
Put it on away

Linger
mm hum, I want to linger
mm hum, a little longer,
mm hum, a little longer here with you
mm hum, on such a perfect night
mm hum, it doesn't seem quite right
mm hum, that this should be my last with you
mm hum, but come September
mm hum, I will remember,
mm hum, our happy days and friendships true
mm hum, and as the years go by,
mm hum, I'll think of you and sigh
mm hum, this is goodnight and not goodbye

Venus in the sky tonight,
Shining with a light so bright,
How often is it that you hear?
Every time that you are near,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Wish upon a star tonight?
Think you back to them and say;
Not to night and not today.
You wish you might, you wish you may,

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
You do not twinkle, that's not what you are.
If you do not twinkle then you are no star.
